“I’ll pay you $15 Mil in Sterling”

Reader, who do you surround yourself with?

High-quality people who are hungry for something greater or people who pander for whatever crumbs they can get? Since you’re a mission-driven pal, I assume you'd choose the former.

So should your emails.

The spam folder is the dark abyss of spammy bros, scammers, and bad pitches. It’s where emails go to die. The last thing you want is for the email you thoughtfully crafted to land next to an email like this one I got recently:

I don't even need to point out the glaringly inaccurate assumptions and the language that will land him on Netflix's next scammer documentary. Wanna stay outta that pesky spam folder? Try these tips:

  1. Authenticate your domain. Connect your email service provider to your website to ensure smooth sending. Gmail and Yahoo require authentication, so you could end up in the spam folder of Gmail and Yahoo recipients if you don’t authenticate your domain within your email service provider.
  2. Scrub your email list. Archive the subscribers who aren’t interacting with your emails. This can include inaccurate email addresses or inactive subscribers, which can increase your chances of getting sucked into email abyss.
  3. Avoid spammy language. Putting words in your subject line like “free” or “urgent” or using too many emojis. These spam triggers will put you right next to a scammy tech bro.

Avoiding the email abyss is easier than it seems, so don’t sweat it. Take a look at your email reports and see if any of these issues are showing up. If so, you know how to fix them now!

Here’s to hoping your emails never land next to someone offering to pay in silver. 🥂
